The overlooked epidemic behind chronic skin conditions

A Skin Deep Epidemic

In the past decade, studies and headlines have pointed to a surge in scabies outbreaks across developed countries. Nursing homes, schools, hospitals, and even military bases have reported infestations that were once considered rare or easily controlled. Meanwhile, demodex mites—long thought to be harmless—are being implicated in rosacea, blepharitis, and chronic facial dermatitis. New studies suggest that in higher densities, Demodex can provoke inflammatory and autoimmune-like responses, especially when paired with bacterial or fungal overgrowth.

Why now?

There are several converging factors:

- Overuse and misuse of conventional treatments like permethrin and ivermectin, leading to resistance.
- Environmental shifts, including urban crowding, higher indoor humidity, and immune-disrupting chemicals.
- A rise in internal parasitic and fungal load due to processed foods, gut dysbiosis, and heavy metal burden.
- A medical system that often overlooks parasites unless they present in textbook, severe forms.

Understanding the rise in resistant and reactive mite infestations isn’t just about epidemiology—it’s about awareness. Because until this epidemic is recognized, countless individuals will continue to suffer in silence, caught between symptoms no one believes and treatments that no longer work.

Conventional Treatment

Conventional treatments for scabies and Demodex mites aim to eliminate the infestation using topical and sometimes oral medications. Although they share some treatment similarities, each has specific pharmaceutical approaches depending on mite type, severity, and patient conditions.

Natural Treatment

For many, pharmaceuticals offer only partial relief—or come with side effects that make them unsustainable. Natural remedies have been used around the world to fight mites, build resilience, and restore balance from the inside out.
